Graham Curlewis MManipTher MSc(Man Ther) BSc(Phys) MMACP MCSP Chartered Manipulative & Sports Physiotherapist Director
I started studying physiotherapy in 1987 and graduated in 1990. I first worked in the NHS for five years, gaining experience in various disciplines including neurology, paediatrics and orthopaedics. I then moved to the BUPA Murrayfield hospital, where I specialised in orthopaedic outpatients and sports injuries over a seven-year period.
During those initial 12 years, I worked for the Scottish Rugby Union with the Scotland ‘A’ and the Scotland 7’s team, as well as other athletes in 1st division rugby. I also joined the Scottish Claymores (NFL Europe), for their 1995 season, as part of their athletic medical support team.
Since leaving BUPA Murrayfield hospital, I have completed two Master’s degrees: the first in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University and the second in Spinal Manipulative Therapy at Curtin University in Perth, Australia.
In 2002, I became a joint partner with Darren and together we have been developing physis ever since. Four years ago I also joined the lecturing faculty at Glasgow Caledonian University and continue to take an active role in the development of the new MSc in Manual Therapy there.
As a physiotherapist, I pride myself in being logical and scientific and thrive on the problem solving of difficult cases. I am determined not to be beaten by the complexity of a condition. I believe my strength as a clinician is finding the root cause to a problem. Making an accurate diagnosis to me is paramount, which is why I endeavour to ask the right questions and to never stop learning about the human body. It never ceases to amaze me how the ever-developing profession of physiotherapy continues to unearth new applications to treating age old conditions.
