A healthy start to your new year?

A healthy start to the new year. Advice from an Edinburgh Physiotherapist.

As physiotherapists we believe in encouraging healthy living in a wider context to our patients. As such we may need to encourage physical activity, weight loss and smoking cessation to our patients. We have have attached some information sheets to help you understand how important even small changes can be to your health.

Increasing physical activity is the key to major health gains. Exercise is a clinically effective treatment for a wide range of medical conditions including arthritis, heart disease, cancer …… to name a few. But the changes do not occur in a couple of weeks and need to be maintained to make long term health benefits.

We often see patients who have tried to increase physical activity but have forgotten that tissues take time to adapt and change. If you rush them (too high an intensity) or do too much (too high a volume) then they can get injured. Unfortunately an injury tends to stop the good work.

So this year have a read of the following information on aspects to improving your health and try to be gradual in your changes and make them enjoyable. This is the recipe for long term changes and success in having a healthier new year. Good luck from the team at Physis.
