Reclaim Your Confidence with the Mummy MOT® at Physis Physiotherapy Edinburgh

The Postnatal Check You Deserve – Because Pain is Not the "Price of Motherhood"

Many women believe that leaking urine when they laugh, persistent back pain, or a “mummy tummy” are simply inevitable consequences of having a baby.

At Physis Physiotherapy, we are here to tell you: these issues are not the price of motherhood.

Whether you gave birth six weeks ago or six years ago, your body deserves specialist care to help you return to the activities you love. As an award-winning Edinburgh clinic with over 20 years of average experience per physiotherapist, we provide the expert intervention needed to ensure you don’t become part of the nearly 50% of women whose bodies do not recover fully without professional help.

What is the Mummy MOT®?

The Mummy MOT is the UK’s leading specialist postnatal assessment. Recommended for all women following childbirth. Whether delivered vaginally or via C-section, this in-depth physiotherapy evaluation identifies physical triggers caused by pregnancy and birth that can lead to long-term chronic issues.

Our 1-hour comprehensive assessment includes:

Postural Screen: Checking your alignment and breathing.

Abdominal Exam: A thorough check for diastasis recti (tummy gap).

Pelvic Floor Evaluation: Assessing strength and screening for bladder, bowel, or sexual dysfunction.

Functional Movement: Evaluating your ability to perform daily tasks like lifting your baby or pushing a buggy.

Written Report: You will receive a full summary of findings and a recovery roadmap.

Is This for Me?

The short answer: Yes.

If you have ever given birth, you are a candidate for a Mummy MOT. While an initial check is recommended at 6–8 weeks postnatal, we frequently treat women many years later who are still struggling with core instability or pelvic floor issues they didn’t realize were treatable.

Don’t wait for “standard” recovery that might never come.

In countries like France, postnatal physiotherapy is a mandatory part of standard care; at Physis, we believe Edinburgh mums deserve that same gold standard.

Meet Rani Sharma, our Mummy & Menopause MOT Practitioner

Rani specialises in both musculoskeletal and women’s health physiotherapy, with clinical expertise in musculoskeletal conditions, sports injuries and pelvic health issues. Her passion for women’s health physiotherapy grew from both professional experience and her own journey through motherhood. Recovering from two complex caesarean deliveries and physical/emotional recovery that followed motivated her to help others navigate pregnancy, postpartum, menopause and beyond.

What our patients say about Rani

‘Rani started seeing me not long after my second c-section and has been instrumental in helping me recover from it as well as general pregnancy related issues (pelvic floor, diastasis recti, and so on). She’s been the perfect mix of encouraging, strict (frequently reminding me not to rush things!), and sympathetic – more than once holding my little boy whilst I practised the exercises. Highly recommend her mummy MOT!’ Emilie Greener

‘I’ve seen Rani for close to 5 months after receiving spinal surgery and I can’t recommend her enough. I can’t believe my progress in such a short space of time and I couldn’t have done it without her! She was amazing from start to finish, no matter how many tears of frustration I cried, she understood and I left every session feeling better and positive about my recovery going forward :)’ Lauren

‘I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Rani. From the very first session, Rani made me feel supported, understood, and empowered in my recovery journey. Her tailored exercises helped ease my pain, improve my mobility, and rebuild strength safely and effectively. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and truly passionate about helping new mums recover. I’m so thankful for her care and would highly recommend her to anyone navigating postpartum healing’ Robyn Darley.
